TOVP – The Adbhuta Mandir?

Since construction began on the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium in Sridham Mayapur in 2009, many devotees have argued back and forth whether the TOVP is the Adbhuta* Mandir referred to in a prediction by Sri Nityananda Prabhu while taking Jiva Goswami on a parikrama of Navadvipa mandala.

The exact quote from the Navadvipa Dhama Mahatmya by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakur is as follows:

eka adbhuta mandira ei haibe prakasa
gauranga nitya-seva haibe vikasa

“An astounding temple will appear and will engage the entire world in the eternal service of Lord Chaitanya.”

This article is not about whether the TOVP is or isn’t that specific ‘adbhuta mandir‘. The reader may do their own research into this issue and come to their own conclusion. Rather, this article will present the case that the TOVP is certainly an adbhuta mandir in its own right, and theologically can be accepted as identical with or one with the ‘real’ adbhuta mandir, in the event some readers disagree with idea that the TOVP is that mandir referred to by Nityananda Prabhu.

The following is a list of the adbhuta (astounding) features of the Temple of the Vedic Planetarium which will make it stand out in Gaudiya Vashnava history, and most certainly flood the world with the eternal service of Lord Caitanya, as well as bring to contemporary society a remarkable structure slated to become a future Wonder of the World.

• The TOVP will be THE largest Vedic temple in modern history, with a capacity to house 10,000 people at one time in its 2.5 acre main floor

• The main temple dome, with a diameter of 177 ft/54 m and height of 114 ft/35 m, is the largest stainless-steel dome of its kind in the world
• The solid titanium Chakras and Kalashes atop the three temple domes are the largest of any Vedic temple, the main dome Chakra measuring 23 ft/7 m in diameter
• The magnificent design and high caliber materials used in the temple’s interior and exterior will draw the attention of the world to this beautiful icon of architecture
• The 21,000 sq ft A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Legacy Museum will be the largest in the world for any single historic personality in human history
• The entire West Planetarium Wing will be an incredible, 4-floor science center replete with a 200-seat planetarium/conference center, presenting theistic exhibits and evidence that life comes from life, and ultimately from the supreme life, Sri Krishna.
• Situated on over 60 acres of land, the temple will be surrounded by gorgeous gardens and walkways, water displays and yajnasalas, amidst the ever-expanding Mayapur Vedic City.
• The TOVP has been predicted by visiting priests from the famous Sri Venkateswara Temple of Tirupati in South India, which attracts 24 million pilgrims annually, to become the ‘Tirupati of the East’. The anticipated numbers from data sources predict 60 million visitors a year!
