This magnificent temple is the fulfillment of a divine prophecy. Five hundred years ago, Sri Nityananda — the merciful incarnation of the Lord — revealed the temple to Jiva Gosvami when they toured Sri Navadvipa-dhama together. In the late 1800s, Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura — the great Bengali Vaisnava saint — stood on his balcony across the Jalangi River and had a vision of the same temple, surrounded by a transcendental city. Then His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati and his disciple, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, worked tirelessly to establish Sridhama Mayapur as a global spiritual center on the banks of the great Ganges in West Bengal.
In 1972, Srila Prabhupada laid the cornerstone for this majestic temple and began revealing his plans for its completion. By the mercy of Sri Caitanya and the Vaisnava acaryas, Srila Prabhupada’s disciples, grand-disciples and followers from all over the world are now building this spectacular temple. This is a project so magnificent and grand in scope that it will attract millions of pilgrims and visitors every year. It will demonstrate to the world the true spiritual, philosophical, and cultural glory of India-which culminates in pure bhakti and the chanting of the holy names of the Lord.
Before the war began on the Battlefield of Kurukshetra, Lord Krishna told Arjuna that the soldiers on the opposing side were already defeated — that the battle was in fact already won — and that all Arjuna had to do was fight. Similarly, this temple and Vedic planetarium are part of the Lord’s divine plan.
